I'm not sure if this is a dumb question but I'm real green here and was wondering if there's a way to make the menu the entire height of the screen.

But you have to have the desktop. You need the toolbar, for one. And where will the sub-menus go? And if all you need is a menu on top of everything else, you are actually describing a program launcher. Which means you can create a desktop-sized bbinterface frame with all the shortcuts and elements you need, something that you can precisely tweak and make it much prettier with graphic elements. AND the toolbar
However, if you want to get a whiff of what you are thinking, open blackbox.rc with a text editor and change two elements - go to session,menu.maxWidth and give a number equal to the width of your screen. Do the same with session.menu.minWidth, Then change session.menu.onTop from false to true. And then let me know what you think of lt

that's just for the width though, I'm looking for the height of the menu to be the height of my desktop

You can add entries and separators to do that, or blank items as tordenflesk suggested, and/or play with the height of the menu.title and the menu.grip. Again, the best way to do it is a bbinterface frame. But, once more, what's the point of that? Blackbox was not meant to be used this way and you will be practically left without one of the main components of any OS/shell combination, the desktop/
