hey Molecube,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes that does look like a very good substitute for explorer, and i really like the tabs feature, something explorer should of included in there product. i will give it a shot and get back to you on my thoughts about it.

i will also continue to look for a answer to our problem, and let you know of any breakthroughs on the issue.

Cheers!

Thanks again

okay Molecube, I have tried Q-Dir out, n i have to say it is excellent and seems faster than explorer so i am very happy with it.

I love how you can have 4 folders open at the same time in one window and how it is easily customizable it is.

Once again Thanks!

Hello,

does anyone know of a way to use an alternate file browser while using blackbox, instead of using windows explorer? :wallbash:

blackbox.exe replaces explorer.exe in your registry editor to change the default shell in windows to bbzero but when you click on explorer in the right click menu on the bb desktop it opens explorer.exe still. Is there n e way of changing explorer to run an anlternate file browser by default?

bbzero needs its own leightweight file browser

id do it.....but im crap at coding and all that hahah.

any help i would greatly appreciate.

Thanks Very Much,

Branden.

Hi brandoluck,

for the same issue I already tried to find a solution but couldn't. Until I find one, I use the file-manager "Q-Dir" which is highly customizable and offers very handy features like tabs and opening multiple folders in one window. If I don't need a very specific function that's only reachable via the original explorer.exe, I can do all my everyday file and folder work in this tool without needing to start the original explorer.exe even once.

If you want to give it a try, you'll find it here: http://www.softwareo...?Download=Q-DIR (The language of the program can of course be switched to english.)

The screenshot on that page isn't very significant. The Google Image Search offers way more impressions of the programs features: https://www.google.c...4.0.Ax8cgODzrho

Hope I could help a little.

In your BB folder, open extensions.rc with a text editor like Notepad and look for the lines

# - command for double left click on a folder in the menu
!blackbox.options.openFolderCommand: explorer.exe /e,"%1"

Substitute explorer.exe with your browser of choice (I use Free Commander, but Nomad is fine too) and you are there :)

I have not tried it yet, but does Q-Dir support SVN? I currently use TortoiseSVN, however, if QD does not support it, I can migrate over to the clunky RapidSVN, I just like the quick right click feature.

There was a version of BB4W that had it's own file blackbox file explorer at one point I forget what it was called now it was back when lostinthebox was still around. It was pretty basic, but would have been a great base to work off of and improve as a actual replacement. I do agree though it would be nice to replace explorer.exe entirely with something more lightweight especially as bbMemLimiter would even reduce it's memory usage a bit.

I use Total Commander, not merely because its been around since forever but because it allows for a ton of useful batch functions and hotkeys and can be integrated with the windows shell with a minor registry tweak.  (as ANYTHING you do on your PC that would trigger Windows Explorer will trigger totalcommander instead so its a full replacement.

Only negatives is the TC version of "This PC" is not nearly as visually informative as windows explorer(it has stats, but the bars require less thinking and judgement, also doesn't display labels by default).  At least I havn't been arsed to fix it if its possible.

I personally use Clover, looks a lot like the explorer except there's tabs.

I think I'm going to give this a try with explorerXP file manager I've tried and used it in the past it was awhile back, but I remember it being very light weight for a file explorer drastically lower than the windows file explorer thus it's a good pairing alongside black box itself from that standpoint.
