No argument there. The more the merrier :) Remember bbpager in bbi can be tweaked anyway you feel like it. Or you can even use individual desktop call-up buttons on the bar using bro@ms :)

well, there's currently 2 problems i see with bbi:

the layout is fixed (so a full bar on my laptop display versus docked with monitor are different :)

and i can't get the ctrl+right click to fall through to the docked bbleanbar (so i can't configure it via menu)

well, things which a bbi overhault could add :P

Why do we need a pager on the bar? Just asking. I mean we have toolbar.label and arrows to change workspaces with. If we need something more elaborate there is bbpager, right? And the latest version, the one unkamunka did for his bb4winmod, even allows for split and mirror graphics - only it doesn't work on XZero's build :(

Guys, do you think this stuff is 2014-ready? I mean is this the way we're going to compete against Windows' 7 and 8 goodies? We need something much more spectacular than that, at least imho... As for merging bbpager or anything else into a single bar, of course you can do it. Just create a bbi frame and add bbleanbar, bbpager (with a fitting configuration) and whatever else you need on it. Remember, bbi is the future, wish TCL was a bit more user-friendly...

Here is a bbi frame I created in just 10 minutes. Contains bbleanbar, bbpager with a suitable configuration, plus some input sliders and a Blackbox options button for good measure :)

Btw, I do not want to compete with either Windows 7 or Windows 8 goodies in either way.

Not having their goodies and still being usable is the biggest spectacle I need.

However I do remember how much i squealed back in the day whenever a new version of bb or a plugin was released, no matter how small the change, and I would like to give some of that back to the community.

Hence this thread and the poll following it.

:) I'm a bit like a pubic hair in your soup.

Pete is right about what is doable for 2014 and setting our goals on realistic improvements but on the other hand Diabol's wish to give users new exciting adventure, even the slightest novelty, is really honorable. But my wish for a newer bar is simply from the stand of an ex-new user: the out of the box experience.

The first bb4windows I downloaded was unkamunka's fork, even if it took me 2 minutes to get use to the shell i spent 2 months to recreate a windows toolbar with bbi together with some cool things from bb4win : pager and system info. I'd gave up long ago if it wasn't for my displeasure with vista. I think anybody coming to bb dont want to be lost and altogether want to have some extra gadgets not less, less is for after. A pager would be cool but from my other points I also added that a more unified bar that combines the features of systembarex, bbleanbar and bbleanbar+ (for the split gadients etc) is more than only a tantrum. I'm a bit fed up to always shift from systembarex and bbleanbars just because such style is more configurable with barex, to change back just because I miss bbleanbar. Of course if a pager can be added it's all benefit.

Well, rest assured I can understand your deep concerns.

Maybe it's a little early, but I've already started rewriting bb8Ball, so it finally gets the features it deserves.

No longer will you have to switch between versions, no longer will it's beautiful icon be amiss or it's menu be a U+1F4A9.

@diabol: You lost me with fixed bbi layout. What do you mean? And bbleanbar within a bbi frame is still configurable. But I am afraid I got it wrong.

@pitkon

well, you can't tell bbi to set a frame to have 100% screen space :

also you can't tell a bbi frame to set workspace size, which is critical for getting maximization right :3

but fear not!

i am fixing bb8ball and i'll fix it  til it breaks :D

Well, actually you CAN tell bbi to have 100% screen space. And what's more, you don't even have to see it. You can set a transparent frame as a basis and then add whatever visible bbi goodies you need. But working with a plugin is one thing, what you are doing with the core and bb8ball and such things is admrable.

I wish you would work on bbi refinements next... :)

things i'd like to add to bblean - typehead on the menus

- the rc. files of blackbox and plugins all gathered in a user directory  (something like $USER/.bblean)

- some event configurable mechanism tied to dragging windows beween monitors so all the windows dragged on monitor#2 autobecame sticky

... to be continued

Added the config-files in user dir and event system.

That especially makes sense with the security model in vista+ (usually program folders are write-protected and configs go into the user directory).

But what do you mean with "typehead on the menus"?

by typehea on the menu i mean:

when you open a menu and type 'bra' it selects the first item in the menu with the label starting with 'bra', then with the tab key you can cycle throug all the item that starts with 'bra'

it's like in fluxbox

Yeah! Now I remember! This one is very cool! That's one of the reason I use altap salamander or double commander as alternate file manager on windows
