Everything was fine until recently, every time on start-up I would get "bbLean Core is not responding". I tried Mojmir's build and it just did the same thing, except it said BlackBoxZero Beta Core is not responding. Even if I log off and log back in, it will do the same thing. I set as shell, I have rights, and I've tried different builds. I have no where else to go for help.

OS: Windows 8

Build: Latest from http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/

64bit

Tell me if you need anymore information.

Any help is appreciated to the fullest extent of the law.

Something must have changed between your last successful start up and the first time you got the "core not responding" message. Something that has to do with Windows and/or your administrative rights, since you tried other builds and they all failed. Are you sure you tried the 64-bit versions of those other builds?

As a last resort, try a shell switcher/manager like ShellOn, to make sure you have set BB as shell.

Have you got windows 8 or 8.1 ? Have you installed any windows updates or any programs to alter or do away with the metro screen? Several of us have been working on such problems for a while and the nesting feature in windows 8 tends to reset values on reboot.Try shell-on to make BB your shell without the kill parts of metro and if your up to date what we like to call windows8.1.1 make sure you get your settings right before you change the shell. Most say that its better to trust Blackbox installed this way.Let us know how you make out.

Thank you for your support. I tried ShellOn, and it didn't seem to work. I don't know what else to do.

You didn't reply to scruffty about your Windows build. I suspect the problem lies there...

Well, bb stops responding when it waits for another application (ex.: when that application doesn't respond to a request to get it's icon) which might cause a loop.

Try disabling all plugins (just rename the plugin.rc to ~plugin.rc or similar) and see if that helps.

Apart from that, grab Process Explorer and when bb hangs check which other applications have been started (right click the column header and check "Start time" in the tab "process performance"). That might help you find the "culprit".
