Hey, just wanted to say I'm really looking forward to the possibility of being able to use Blackbox as a stable shell for Win10.  Seems the version of bbzero I've managed to get functioning has intermittent and random crashing, although it's difficult to say where the conflict is happening as I'm not running on a clean system.  Thanks for all your hard work, mojmir and all other programmers who've contributed.  I appreciate your efforts.

I'd just like to know what functionality anyone else thinks BB needs for XP? It seems mostly feature-complete, although I think the various config utilities could be better consolidated.  I just want it to run on Win 10 and up going forward as necessary. 

also hyped for the W10 bb rehaul as I can not run on any other version of Windows (for realtime low-latency performance, the W10 kernel is unbeatable), besides it would take 4x12h to reinstall all my programs

This is good to hear. Although, I still can't convince myself to use W10, with it's forced updates and telemetry. I'm still on Win 8.1 64 bit. Will this new version be compatible with Win 8.1 too?

the forced updates can't be cancelled, only delayed up to one year. But the telemetry can be stopped. There are several programs out there that can do that. One them that I use myself is "Destroy Windows 10 Spying". Sounds rather archaic but it does what it says. Might be worth a try, maybe in a virtual machine for testing first

A year? I didn't realize that. But that would only be for W10 Pro, wouldn't it? I have 2 PC's (one with home and one with pro). I use one only for music and art. I'm thinking of keeping that one offline wherever possible.

as far as I'm concerned delaying updates in Win10 works on all versions. It's been a bit since I read about it but when I searched for it recently I found out there are several ways of delaying or even deactivating updates, like:

Though I stick to recommending to install updates when they're out because many of them are security fixes which are very important. Keeping your windows computer offline is a quite smart method of staying out of trouble with viruses etc. But this way you got to download and install updates yourself.

Anyway, I don't want to make this a Windows-Update-Thread so enough of it

tbh there is an even EASIER way to disable (and re-enable updates) then GPedit or metering.  (that said I would wholeheartedly suggest metering if you have to pay for internet in remote locations, guided my husband on this methodology and it worked well but could interfere with other windows apps so I wouldn't recommend it for everyone)

Should stop it straight up in its track(did for me), giving you control over when you want to update.  ((Echo))That said i'de suggest updating, especially once an update has been out for a bit.  A little extra e-safety from patches goes a long way.((Echo))  OOSU is a good way to figure out if any telemetry is re-enabled with update, as it'll actively tell you windows changed a setting when loading.

On topic, been about a year since the first post.  Updates would be nice! Even a "been too damn busy" post would help quell the beast within.

And thanks, Ritz. I do, in fact, have a limited data allowance. I keep windows updated, but I manually install security only updates, from the MS catalogue. And of course defender updates (on Win 8.1).

nope! and bbzero is almost unusable...too bad all this started too promisingly with too little dev. I went back to  grischka's bblean1.17 and using it as an overlay of windows shell instead of a shell replacement. I'm using autohotkey to completely hide task bar. works like a charm, no hiccups and damn light.

Development isn't always the first thing we developers want to do after we've done it all day. Even when they are projects we are passionate about. It certainly doesn't help when organizations like Microsoft, with hundreds of developers working on the shell, rewrite what we tie into and/or replace quicker than we can adapt in our free time. Essentially, this isn't as easy to do as the *nix platform counter parts.
