That's really nice! I'm using bbzero at work and at home with Windows 10 already.

Development isn't always the first thing we developers want to do after we've done it all day. Even when they are projects we are passionate about. It certainly doesn't help when organizations like Microsoft, with hundreds of developers working on the shell, rewrite what we tie into and/or replace quicker than we can adapt in our free time. Essentially, this isn't as easy to do as the *nix platform counter parts.

we do agree. I'm not trying to blame anybody but only fate.

Though, if you permit, I'll say this: less is more.

What's extraordinary, grischka's bblean1.17 is, from a general point of view, the more usable even if the oldest. Your fork also work better than bbzero. I'm not saying bbzero does not work at all but these last 10 years bblean has been my only work environment and bbzero has become too "strange for me to continue using it for work.

Hmm seems the last build is still the build from years ago. I know irl can be troublesome and personal tasks take a back-burner when interest creates pressure. So, i wonder... is this dead now?

Not so much dead as inactive.  The biggest issue with shells and windows 10 atm is being able to bind certain hotkeys with explorer running.  Classic shell can bind win key with no issue~ but no other shell that still functions with windows 10 has figured it out (blackbox as well).  One obvious problem with running over explorer is the tray not loading all of your start up shoopy properly.

BBzero and all shells work fine as an explorer replacement, but due to the nature of Windows 10 you lose a lot of functionality like setting HDR and the such.

If you want the Black Box experience and can live without some compatibility i'd recommend Manjaro XFCE and installing Open Box on top of it.  Or if you dont care about or use certain windows config features then running as shell is still a-ok.

Glad to see you're still active (or again). Haven't been here for quite a while but I'm still using bbZero on a daily basis. It's a damn nice piece of software. I wish I had better programming skills and could add to the development. Can only code some PHP/HTML/CSS and very little C++. Looking forward to any progress you guys make - whatever time it takes.

Cheers!

Thanks, that makes two of us :)

I know next to nothing about coding, so I feel for you. Blackbox oders are really gifted people who do something very few people on Earth do: work their asses off to let people enjoy their everyday computer lives and expand their dreams and horizons, because that's what coding and themeing is all about, where art meets tech. And they do all this for free. Hats off, guys!

Hats off indeed. I only code for work (scripts and programs which do tasks that excel, notepad++ or other tools we use either can't do or it's too complicated). But since I'm a video game enthusiast and long time blackbox user I know what you mean by "art meets tech".
