@xoblite
Karl, I've tried latest xoblite, and though it is marked as extended shell, personally, I think it is near being full replacement, as has its own taskbar.
I tried with killing explorer and only thing that is missing is option to place xoblite taskbar in position of explorer's taskbar, and systray.
I mean, with xoblite's menu and taskbar, why would anyone need explorer's taskbar and start menu?

I have to agree with you.
I've used xob as a shell from day one, never had any issues with it. On the contrary, it makes for a faster environment and, after all, a shell should be used as a shell, otherwise it beats its name and purpose
I agree, some things ARE missing - things Win 10 imposed on us - but they can easily be replaced. For instance, who needs File Explorer when you can have Free Commander, the best file browser ever?

Exactly. I fully replaced Windows explorer (shell and file explorer), using blackbox as shell and explorer++ as file explorer replacement.
Currently I am using Mojmir's latest build, works fine, but xoblite is awesome and looks awesome.

xoblite has so many goodies, it's almost unbeatable as far as shells go.
Except for one thing. For me, a shell should be exactly that - a shell, covering every aspect of a desktop environment, skinning just about everything. What made Blackbox stand out compared to other shells, like LiteStep for instance, is the fact that Blackbox a) allowed everyone to play, use and upload their own themes (styles) VERY easily and Blackbox could skin windows!!!!
Unfortunately, xob offers no reliable window skinning plugin. bbleanskin doesn't work with it, of course, and that old bbwinskin or bbwinmod isn't rock steady and doesn't include new stuff like 8-color gradients.
Me and Karl have spoken about it at length and I know Karl's views, which I respect of course. But until someone comes up with a fully working window skinning plugin, xob will be badly lacking in that department, wonderful as it may be - and is..

The pinning and window shade functions were also very handy to have IMO. Updating to win10 and having to go back to explorer made me miss being able to easily pin windows to the top so much. The skinning aspect was also great as well since it gave everything a nice clean, unified look.

Regarding [include], I may actually have commented that part out as I figured no one was actually using it anymore nor could think of any immediate reason to do so. Care to elaborate?
I usually have a number of sub-menus with large amounts of items and it's convenient to be able to organize them in separate .rc files, I've always done it that way.
While some people, with less items, can be comfortable to have all in a single .rc file I'm sure there's other BB users like me that use the [include] syntax for fragmenting into separate files their things.

ExplorerXP is another alternative to file explorer or explorer++ it's really light weight on system resources. I believe it's a bit sluggish on the file folder renaming though, but otherwise not much downside if you want a more resource lightweight alternative.

Hi all,
quickly dropping by to let you know that I released an interim update to the core binaries - xoblite bb5 RC4+ (0.21.2.14) - on February 14th, 2021 (downloads, changes).
- molecube, knowom, sitalk, and others: This includes a few features and improvements that should be of interest to you, so check it out!
- spoot: Window shading is still there - you can try Alt+Mid clicking on an application's taskbar item, or use the @xoblite Window Shade broadcast message mapped to e.g. a hotkey, to shade/unshade the window in question.

also is there a way to make the toolbar large enough to cover the edges of the screen?

- Since adding support for optional xoblite.rc configurable X1 and X2 mouse click on desktop action overrides seemingly didn't bring about the apocalypse, I have now added support also for Right and Mid mouse click on desktop action overrides...
Woo!!! Mid and right mouse button custom actions means working alt menu! Tacksomfan!
(Boo! No apocalypse. I've got the outfit ready and everything! )

- As a safeguard, for all overrides, holding down the Alt key while clicking will fall back to the default action
ALT+RMB doesn't show the main menu, though. It shows the styles menu.

- If you do not have an override configured, it will use the default action and modifier actions for the mouse button (see link).
- If you do have an override configured, only the Alt modifier is parsed and will then trigger the default (i.e. non-override) primary action, as a safeguard/fallback (nb. this is especially important of course for the Right mouse button as its default action == open the main menu is also where most of the core configuration takes place, including in-menu configuration of these overrides).

Ah! Didn't realise it's context-sensitive! Nice.
It's still possible to muck it up by making a mistake when using menu file switching, but then you can always get at the binds in xoblite.rc anyway, so it's not an issue.

After happily fiddling about with alternative menus for a bit I'd like to add my vote to tordenflesk's request for adding the [insertpath] menu command, for inserting the contents of a directory directly at the current branch level rather than as a submenu.
This is pretty low priority, as we can just add the contents of the directory manually item by item, but it'd make menu design a lot smoother in some cases.
